About Us

The Institute for Sensing and Embedded Network Systems Engineering (I-SENSE) was established in early 2015 to coordinate university-wide activities in the Sensing and Smart Systems pillar of FAU’s Strategic Plan for the Race to Excellence.

FAU is positioned to capitalize on emerging sensing, communication, and data analytics technologies to embark on a new trajectory of excellence in the institution’s research, education, and public service missions. These technologies can enable incredible opportunities for exploration and discovery that leverage FAU’s unique regional resources across six campuses, 10 colleges, and numerous research programs.

I-SENSE was established to foster the realization of these opportunities by providing two core services to the FAU community. First, the institute serves as a technology clearinghouse for sensing, communication, and data management technologies, providing relevant expertise and engineering support. Second, the institute serves as an interdisciplinary hub, cultivating research, education, and service initiatives that cut across academic units; and provides the administrative support necessary to sustain those initiatives.

The I-SENSE mission is to catalyze exploration and discovery at the confluence of sensing, smart systems, and critical application areas to support FAU’s aspiration of becoming the country’s next top-tier research university.
